Christmas Season Fine Time to List a Property on the UK Housing Market

As the Christmas season is quickly rushing into our field of view, many thinking of selling their house on the UK housing market are wondering if this is a good time of the year to consider putting their home on the market. The answer is a resounding, yes. Many house hunters take the slow time of the year to check out what is available online whilst they are at home and at their place of business. Estate agents suggest placing a property on the market now in order to take advantage of these types of buyers and others who are lurking.

In addition to the selling side of the market running strong, remortgaging is also moving at a fast pace. The last quarter of this year is seeing much more activity than at the same time last year. This is due to the possibility of a rise in base rate which could take place at the beginning of the year by some estimates.

David Thomson, sales manager at Davies & Way estate agents in Keynsham, commented on the Christmas season, saying: "We strongly believe in marketing properties in the run-up to Christmas as, year-on-year, we notice an increase in website traffic over the Christmas and New Year period.”

Thomson added: "This increased activity directly relates to a higher number of viewings and offers in the early part of January. It seems that, over the festival period, people use this time to sit down with their families and discuss their plans for the coming year, and many who make the exciting decision to move house start their search browsing the websites or reading local property supplements.”
