History is Made as the UK Votes in EU Referendum for a Brexit

Early this morning most UK major broadcasters called for the EU Referendum vote to be in favor of a Brexit. Analysts are being woken from their bed to give their thoughts on what is to come for the UK in terms of the economy, jobs, banking, politics, and more.

The entire world is reacting to the results, despite that not all votes have been tallied.

An important consideration is being given for the value of the pound and the impact of the vote upon it. Once the London stock market opens as well as the New York stock market, a quick response may be needed by the Bank of England.

The other considerations being heavily looked at are the ramifications of the vote on the UK housing market and lending.

It is expected that not long after a leave vote, interest rates could be increased. This would a shock to the expectation of borrowers that have become comfortable with historically low interest rates being offered by lenders. The greatest shock would impact those homeowners that have had their mortgage deal end and have been moved to their lender’s standard variable rate (SVR).

Currently lender’s SVRs are quite affordable. Should lenders increase their SVR, which they can do with little notice to mortgage holders, then homeowners would be sent scrambling to secure a safe interest rate within a remortgage as quickly as possible. However, due to the newer safety measures in place for borrowers and lenders the process to get a remortgage will not be a quick one.

In the days and weeks ahead more clarity will occur as to what is in store for homeowners, home buyers, sellers, landlords, and the housing market as a whole. Experts will likely suggest those with an interest in these areas to stay alert and be ready to react if it is in their best interest to do so.

Meanwhile, all of the UK will be waking up to a surprise development and unanswered questions will be sought throughout the day as the realization of this historical event settles across the globe.
