Housing Market is Evolving as is Homeownership While Brexit Looms

The UK housing market is showing the strain of carrying Brexit on its shoulders. In the beginning, experts considered and even warned that the market would be damaged immediately and house prices would decline quickly at the lack of buyers. Yet, the market proved resilient and stayed strong with buyers more intent on fulfilling the lifelong dream of home ownership than carrying about the uncertain future economy.

The housing market remains strong and hopeful home buyers are still interested with low interest prices and aggressive sellers in the market. However there are many factors, including Brexit that could result in a weakening that has been avoided so far.

The number of new homes coming onto the market is not standing up to demand and sellers are holding onto their asking prices. Putting things into a type of standstill, sellers could and are expected to remain steady on their expectations and buyers will be put off.

There is no sign on the horizon of any government schemes to bring attention from first time home buyers and those looking to upgrade properties. Interest rates remain low but it has become more of a norm for those borrowing and no longer holds the appeal it did for those used to paying much more to secure a mortgage.

Another factor is the change in opinion of those young adults that in years and decades past would have been aggressively pursuing the housing market. Now, young families and young adults are more content to rent and not put roots down permanently into a home, a job, career, or a specific area. They instead look for opportunity to be free to make decisions that homeownership does not allow.

That opinion could only be swayed with the opportunity to invest and first time starter homes are in low supply as stated earlier.

Homeowners looking to sell are going to have to sell in a very different market that existed just years before.

Those homeowners that are content to stay put could be in the best situation to experience homeownership, They have the opportunity to investment in one’s own property, and have available low interest remortgages to help save money and secure their financial health moving into Brexit.
