Recent Vote in Scotland Deciding Factor for Many Households

The recent NO vote coming about in Scotland may take the breaks off many households trying to decide on a move or not.  Not only will this take place in Scotland, but across the UK as well, according to many in and around the housing market.  Activity within the sector could likely pick up in both the UK and Scotland since apprehension about the future of the UK is now no longer up in the air.

Ran Morgan, head of Knight Frank Scotland, commented on the next move for indecisive house buyers, saying: “The certainty provided by a ‘No’ vote will allow the property market to return to more normal trading conditions. The fundamentals are in place to ensure a full recovery, led by the key cities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow and rural counties within commuting distance of large employment hubs.”

Morgan added: "We believe that the outlook for the prime property market in Scotland is positive. Our forecast is that prime values will rise by 3pc by the end of this year and by a further 3-6pc in 2015.”

According to those attached to the market on a daily basis, Scotland’s housing market activity slowed significantly leading up to the day of the vote.  Many potential movers awaited the vote result and based their decision solely on the outcome.

Those seeking a remortgage however, have not been affected as those in search of an attractive deal preceding the base rate increase are being handsomely rewarded.  The bank rate increase has created an environment beneficial to all those seeking a remortgage or original house purchase mortgage.
