UK Builder Sees Record Number of Completions during First Half of Year

Although the UK housing market had a lackluster month in June in terms of growth of rise in house prices, it did perform well in the area of house completions, according to the latest data from home builder Bovis. The first half of the year has been extremely successful, even records have been set. The firm completed more than 1,500 homes in the first six months of the year, which surpasses the six month total of last year by more than 40.

The average house price, according to Bovis, has been pushed up to more than £220,000. The average price of private transactions, not considering social housing, is up to £260,000.

David Ritchie of Bovis commented on the latest figures released by the firm, saying: “The group has delivered a record number of first-half legal completions, made possible by the high quality land investments made during the last few years.

“We continue to trade well in a positive UK housing market delivering a strong forward sales and build position on an increased number of sales outlets. As a result we are on track to deliver our expected growth for 2015 and a further increase in return on capital employed supported by robust profit margins and improved capital turn.”

Ritchie continued: "Future growth in shareholder returns is being underpinned by further disciplined investment in new consented and strategic land."

Original mortgage loan applications are picking up after a lull in activity following the general election, as well as remortgage requests. Overall, many estimates from experts still point to house prices increasing by more than 3% by the end of year.
