Mortgage & Remortgage Statistics
The statistics below are correct as of Q3 2009.
- Remortgages accounted for 34% of all lending to Q3 2009, the lowest proportion since 2007.
- The proportion of mortgage and remortgage loans given to borrowers who have had previous credit problems remained unchanged from last quarter, at a steady low of 0.4%.
- New arrears cases continued to fall, down to 46,000 – a 10% decrease in the quarter.
- By the end of Q3 2009 the total number of accounts in arrears had fallen 2% over the quarter to 395,000, but this is 16% higher than a year earlier.
- New possessions totalled 14,000, 5% below the peak at the start of the year but a 2.8% increase on Q2.
- The total value of outstanding mortgage loans is now over £1.2bn, this is an increase of 1% on a year earlier.
