Financial Services Authority

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is the regulator of all financial services in the UK. It was set up by the Government to protect the people while doing business with financial agencies. It is important that you verify your lender or broker is authorized and regulated by the FSA.

A way for a homeowner to check this information is to check the FSA Register. The FSA maintains a register that is available on line. According to the website, the FSA Register "is designed to be a public record of those firms that are or have been regulated or registered by us and the individuals within firms who are ‘approved’ to carry out particular functions."

It pays to make sure the lender or broker is approved and knowledgeable to work on your remortgage. You can go through this link FSA Register and do a search under Financial Services Firm Search.
